Hope everyone had an amazing long weekend and happy Easter to those that celebrate it.
Phew, Long weekend I said, yes indeed full of assignments. Going back to the last lecture we discussed several things:
Multiple intelligence and Multimedia.
Collaboration and cooperative learning.
21-century Skills.
Gardner's
theory of multiple intelligence is based on defining the concept of
intelligence as the ability to solve problems and create a product in a variety
of ways, showing that being a bookworm does not equal intelligence. We all
learn in different ways by showing our dominant intelligence. Types of intelligence
include: musical-rhythmic, physical-kinesthetic, visual-spatial,
logical-mathematical, verbal-linguistic, naturalistic, existential,
interpersonal, and interpersonal.
The
applications of multiple intelligence theory in education are extensive. Students
apply classroom learning according to their own dominant intelligence and
learning style that is most effective for them. The use of instructions adapted
to the theory of multiple intelligence contributes to the development of
logical, critical and creative thinking skills, as well as the development of a
high level of thinking. The key in the teaching process is to give the student
the space and opportunity to show their personal talent. Personal cognitive skills
enable students to incorporate existing insights and knowledge into new ideas.
It is important to train students for interdisciplinary tasks that require
collaboration and teamwork. In addition, students need to know and feel that
they are responsible for their own learning, as well as the ability to be free,
to generate ideas and put them into action.
Contribution
of multiple intelligence theory to collaborative learning
The trends of the modern world are teamwork and collaboration. Many partnerships in different development areas enable faster and more meaningful results. Individual strengths, skills and learning styles are expressed and contribute differently to the collaborative learning process. The distribution of roles in the team is usually based on the intelligence of the team members. A similar process also takes place in the classroom. Each student's role in the group is based on their ability and contribution to achieving the team's goal.
Verbal skills (linguistic intelligence) are most important in the processes of brainstorming, research, discussion and script writing.
Students with logical-mathematical intelligence have more influence in defining the steps to solve the problem.
Spatial intelligence students have the ability to translate mental and visual models into meaningful models for the rest of the group.
Students with kinetic intelligence emerge more prominently when learning requires the activation of tools, in learning-by-doing processes.
Musical intelligence expresses itself in a musical environment.
Students with intrapersonal intelligence are more aware of their abilities, strengths and weaknesses, they can show team members where they need support and where progress can be made.
Environmentally conscious students tend to find more creative and environmentally friendly solutions.
Each group is unique because of the
different people that make it up, just as people are different because of the
diversity of dominant intelligence
. In this way, the group works more
efficiently and creatively the greater its performance.
Multimedia
The field of education is changing rapidly.
Multimedia is an important part of education in the 21st century. It helps
engage students and keep them interested in the learning process. In general, multimedia is the combination of
visual and audio representations, such as : elements
of text, graphic arts, sound, animation, and video.
As a soon-to-be English teacher, I would use
multimedia as a helping tool to teach vocabulary. With videos, students can see the gestures and
expressions of people speaking. Another benefit is that these clips provide
context, it’s easier to understand what someone means when we know what’s going
on around them such as being in a restaurant or playing soccer. Videos can be
used in class to introduce students to new vocabulary and grammar structures.
This way, they’ll remember the words much better because of how many times we
hear them during class time instead of just reading about them once on paper.
21st-century skills.
I touched upon the 4C of 21 century in my previous
blog, there is
a short video recommendation too, check it out.
To get more into it I highly recommend checking

I am attaching here an inclusive illustration to spoil your
curiosity
Hi Amoreta,
ReplyDeleteI like how you have highlighted with different colors how we can incorporate each specific intelligence in class as a cooperative method. Over all, you have touched upon every topic we discussed in the lecture and the link you provided was also a very informative page.
Keep the good work!
